This is a particularly unusual and fascinating Aston Martin V8 with a substantial history file and a story that sets it apart from the majority of surviving examples.
First registered in April 1980, the car began life as an Aston Martin V8 Oscar India saloon before undergoing an extensive conversion to Volante form in 1989.
Importantly, this is not simply a car whose conversion has been lost to history. The accompanying documentation includes period invoices relating to the work together with photographs taken during the conversion, providing a valuable record of its transformation.
The conversion was undertaken by Chapman Spooner and incorporated the distinctive wide-bodied Vantage Volante-style appearance seen today.
Finished in Metallic Blue with a Blue leather interior trimmed in Dark Blue, the car is also equipped with the highly desirable manual gearbox, making this an especially interesting specification for an Aston Martin V8 of this period.
Recently recommissioned
Having been stored and little used for approximately six years, the car was deliberately not started when it first arrived with us. Rather than risk circulating old fuel through the engine and fuel system, the decision was made to have the car properly recommissioned before returning it to use.
That recommissioning has now been carried out and included draining the old fuel, replacing the oil and filters, replacing the fuel and air filters and renewing the brake fluid.
The supporting invoice for this latest work is being added to the car's history file.
History and provenance
One of the most compelling aspects of this Aston Martin is its documentation.
The history file contains material spanning many years of the car's life, including invoices for servicing, maintenance and mechanical work, together with documentation and period photographs relating to the 1989 conversion.
We have spent considerable time examining and cataloguing the history accompanying the car so that its unusual story can be properly understood and preserved for its next owner.

Condition
This should not be mistaken for a freshly restored concours example.
There is visible corrosion in a number of areas and cosmetic work that a future owner may choose to undertake. The wheels would also benefit from refurbishment and there are other age-related areas that could be improved.
We have deliberately photographed and filmed the car honestly rather than attempting to disguise those aspects of its condition.
Following its recent recommissioning, it represents an opportunity either to enjoy and progressively improve a very unusual Aston Martin, or to undertake a more comprehensive cosmetic restoration in the future.
What makes the car particularly appealing is the combination of its 5.3-litre Aston Martin V8, manual transmission, dramatic open Vantage Volante-style bodywork and the documentary history surrounding its conversion.
It is not being represented as a factory-built Vantage Volante. It is something rather different: an original 1980 Oscar India V8 with a documented period conversion carried out in 1989, and a substantial history file that helps tell the story of the car over more than four decades.
